2011 Bathurst Bike Show

In 2007 at the Bathurst Motor Festival at Easter Greg Hirst Enterprises introduced motorcycle displays as part of the activities in the Harris Park Area of Mt. Panorama. Over the next three years this evolved into two days of displays catering for street and custom motorcycles as well as touring and vintage ones.

In 2010 the inclement weather at the 12 Hour sizeably reduced the numbers but riders still came from Sydney and Orange to enter the competitions.

Clearly these events have been embraced by the motorcycling community.

Latest Developments

The 12 hour organisers  decided to go in a different direction in 2011 and will not require the bike displays again.

The bike shows in February grew out of a desire  to keep motorcycling active in the Bathurst region while we await the hoped return of motorcycle racing to Mt. Panorama.

As a result an application was put to the Bathurst Regional Council to close a major road in the centre of town to allow a new event combining a street and custom motorcycle show and motorcycle club display day.

On November 18 Bathurst Regional Council  agreed to close a road outside its offices in Bathurst (Russell Street) on Saturday,February 5 to hold the annual Street and Custom Motorcycle Show.

Previously held as part of the Bathurst 12 Hour, the Council came to the rescue when the car race organisers decided it didn’t want bikes any more as part of the off-track activities. The Council is still investigating possible changes to the to the track design that would allow a motorcycle race meeting to be held at the famous Mt. Panorama track.

In the meantime it is keen to keep its town on the motorcycle map and is welcoming riders to town on February 5. The Show will only cost $10 for competition entry but free for club displays and general admission. There will be trophies, cash prizes, rally awards, club awards and live music as at previous events. Set up is from 9am and competion goes from 11am-3pm.

Some Pics from 2010 and 2011

The Bathurst locals turned up in droves to check out this historic event. Not only was it free to check out this great range of motorcycles but parents could leave the kids at the jumping castle while they had a leisurely look at the motorcycles on display ranging from custom motorcycles to vintage, off road , sports bikes and some makes not seen around for some time. With some impressive vintage machinery including a 1929 Arial, the local committee driving the campaign for a new motorcycle race track at Mount Panorama made a big impact and called for funding to be made available by local, state and federal governments. We can only hope they keep this fight going. Motorcycle racing at Bathurst again… it would be a dream come true!
